WHY?
We are so thankful for all the ways God builds families! In a sermon series by Rick Warren of Saddleback Church, he reminds us there are many ways to care for orphans. He explains that while the family is the ultimate solution for the orphan, a community can take this solution a step further and support the families that parent the orphan. The Titus Task is dedicated to helping families and communities support the cause of orphans around the world.
The Need:
The message is for today…to look after orphans, to share our food with the hungry, to provide the poor with shelter, to clothe the naked—to not turn away. Isaiah 58
The Need:
- Over 143 million children in the world have lost one or both parents.
- Every 18 seconds another child becomes an orphan, without a mother or a father.
- Every 14 seconds a child loses a parent due to aids.
- Orphans are found in every corner of our world.
- At any given time there are over 500,000 children in the US Foster Care system.
- Statistics show an alarmingly high rate of orphaned children working on streets and in domestic service.
- Each year, more than 2 million children are exploited in the global Commercial sex trade.
- There is a movement in the Church and in our communities across the US to care for the orphan.
- In NW Arkansas, we enjoy a community of compassionate, accepting, and generous people. We can make a difference for orphans in our world and we will see the difference in our homes, in our schools, and in our community.
